         Community Supported Pizza

How it works:

Once a month for six months you get to pick up artisan frozen wood oven pizza at Quiet Creek to enjoy at home. Do you like to make your own pizza with Quiet Creek's awesome produce? Choose either a traditional Neapolitan par baked crust or an organic whole-wheat crust and get creative!

About our pizza:

Switchback Pizza (Drew and Marguerite) makes our pizza using local vegetables, pastured meats, artisan dough and sauce.

The dough is cold fermented for 36 hours allowing them to develop a unique natural sweetness. The Neapolitan dough is made with organic unbleached white and whole-wheat flours combined with artisan flour, salt, water and yeast. The 100% organic whole-wheat dough is 50% whole-wheat flour combined with unbleached flour, salt, water and yeast.

We strive to use as many local and organic ingredients as possible. All our cheeses are hormone and antibiotic free and we use local naturally raised hormone/ antibiotic free meats. We custom make our own pepperoni in order to provide you a naturally raised pepperoni.  Come July we will have our own organically grown farm raised garlic to use on our pizzas!

Do You Want Delicious & Nutritous Pastured Chicken This Season???

Locally Raised on Pasture and Organic Grain- Whole, Halved, and Pieced Birds Available!
Ledamete Grass Farm Member Reviews

"Hands-down, best chicken ever!"

"Your chickens are flavorful and juicy and even more importantly we know they were raised the right way, not in some factory farm."

"Best chickens and pork our family has ever tasted!"

"We feel so fortunate to have great farmers like Rob and April. We want to be connected to our food sources and the set up Rob and April have with our veggie CSA, Blooming Glen Farm, makes this so easy for us. We have a large share and get four chickens each month, one whole, one halved (great on the BBQ) and two pieced. The chickens are large, moist, and delicious. For a year I contemplated investing in the the chicken share and I am so glad we did. The chickens are better quality than the organic supermarket birds I had been purchasing. I always wondered how the supermarket birds were really treated, but I don't worry about the integrity of Ledemete Farm. Each month we also have the option to purchase pork products and we are LOVING the bacon and sausage, as well as the new experience of cooking and baking with lard (amazing texture and taste!). We could not be happier with the food and the service from Rob and April. If you are looking for local pork and poultry, look no further!"

"We are so fortunate to be able to obtain chicken and pork from Ledamete Grass Farm through our Pennypack Farm CSA. Last year we tried a small chicken share and were surprised how much different grass fed free range chicken tastes. So moist, flavorful, and fresh we increased our share for this year. Now we have the opportunity to get the turkey and pork products too. We are in hog heaven. I thought the chickens were great, the pork blew us away! Lean, light, flavorful, the most amazing pork we have ever had. The thought and care Rob and April give to raising their livestock is admirable and their hard work is reflected on the fork. We are proud to support local farms and organic practices. We tell everyone we know about being responsible and knowledgeable about where thier food comes from. Support local, support your health, and if your lucky enough to have the opportunity to try Ledamete, do it! Yum, yum, yum!!!! "

"This is our first year in Rob and April's CSA after learning about it through our vegetable CSA. While I always appreciated buying farm raised poultry whenever possible, I never would have imagined just how much better these pastured chickens could taste. I've met Rob and you can feel the integrity and passion he has for his work. It shows in the excellent flavor of the chickens. I can't wait to get to visit and try their other equally wholesome products."

ahsachickens2Amazing flavor and nutrition! Because of their constant access to pasture, their tender and flavorful meat is nutrient-dense and high in omega-3 fatty acids.

Locally & Organically Grown!
The chicks are from a hatchery in Quakertown; the grain is organically grown (non-certified) and milled in Oley; and the chickens are raised and processed in Schnecksville. It doesn't get much more local than that!

It's so convenient!
You can pick up your chickens at your veggie CSA for a one-stop shop.

Know your Farmer!
You can connect with your food and the people who raise it. Rob and April live and work on the farm every day. They are happy to answer questions and to share the latest news from the farm.

Access to Artisanal Products
You can order other Ledamete Grass Farm products, including but not limited to handmade turkey and pork sausages, no-nitrate bacon cured w/only Celtic Sea Salt and organic Rapadura
sugar, grass-fed ghee, and more!

Availability and Consistency
CSA members receive chicken shares for 6 months of the year (May-October), with an option to stock up in the fall for the winter months.

“Just Right” Share Sizes and Options
You can choose from five dif
ferent share sizes as well as whole, halved or pieced chickens . If none of the share sizes are a perfect fit, custom shares are available too!

Delicious Seasonal Recipes!
You will receive monthly emails with lots of seasonal recipes and tips for getting the most out of your chicken.

About Our Chickens:
If given the opportunity, chickens will eat up to 30% of their diet in bugs, herbs and grasses. We allow our birds to scratch, dig and peck their days away. In addition to the forage they find, we provide our birds with grain, grown and milled fresh by a local farmer who utilizes organic methods.

The birds spend the first one to two weeks of their lives in a cozy and clean nursery, then out to pasture they go where they feast on the bugs, herbs and grasses they love in the bright sunshine. The birds find protection from predators and shelter from the elements in their movable pens.

The birds’ access to fresh air, exercise, sunshine, green grass and bugs creates very delicious and nutritious meat.
Don't buy food from strangers, know your farmer! turkeys_oct2013

CHEESE SHARES

From Mandy Arrowsmith of Hillacres Pride

I hope that this snowy winter finds you well and warm.  It has certainly presented some challenges this winter on the farm.  Although cows like the cold better then the heat, keeping water flowing, pens bedded and dry and the lane open for milk and feed trucks has taken a fair amount of time.  We are thinking about spring and grazing cows and that has us thinking about our cheese share.

We wanted you to know that we will be offering our Cheese share through Quiet Creek again this year.  You must be a veggie share holder there to get the cheese share.  We are offering an early bird special for those who sign up and pay by March 1, you will be able to receive the 2013 price of $120.  Our share will be very similar to last year, running 11 deliveries of 2 cheeses each, for a total of 22 cheeses.

Thank you for supporting our farm in 2013 and we look forward to working with you in 2014.  As always, if you have any comments about our cheese or the share, we would love to hear from you. Mandy@hillacrespride.com

2013 SURVEY RESULTS

1) PICKUP TIME

1-7 pm was the most popular time slot, for both Tuesday and Friday pickup. So that will be our new schedule for the 2014 season.

2) AMOUNT OF PRODUCE

Most people felt the amount of produce was "just right" - 73%. There were a fair number of members who felt that the amount was "variable" - 33%. We presume that this is one of the facets of CSA membership that is difficult to change. The nature of eating seasonally from one farm is that the produce does not come in regularly. For most fruiting crops, there is a beginning with low production, a peak with high production, and an ending with low production. This inherent variability is compounded by the forces of weather, temperatures, and rainfall. We do what we can to ensure a well-rounded harvest all season long, but there are always factors beyond our control.

3) QUALITY OF VEGETABLES

90% of responders reported the quality of the vegetables to be excellent.

4) TOP 10 VEGETABLES (in order)

Fall carrots, Broccoli, Salad mix, Garlic, Heirloom tomatoes, Spinach, Gold Potatoes, Red tomatoes, Sweet Potatoes, Spring carrots

5) LEAST FAVORITE VEGETABLES (in order)

Turnips, Celeriac, Chard, Eggplant, Radishes

6) TOP 5 UPICK CROPS

Cherry tomatoes, Snap peas, Strawberries, San Marzano pastes, Raspberries

7) FAVORITE ASPECT OF PICKUP DAY

Selection of fresh vegetables (92%) was the most popular, followed by the Upick garden, Barn Manager Heidi, the Cooperative shares, and the peace & quiet of the farm.

8) 99% of responders read the Harvest Update emails.

9) OVERALL SATISFACTION

89% reported excellent.

10) REASONS FOR RENEWING

Quality of vegetables (95%) was the top reason, followed by local, freshness, certified organic, and variety, in order.

2014 PLANS

We are finalizing the Crop Planting Schedule and selecting varieties to complete our seed orders today. We will send out another update soon with some highlights of the exciting plans for the coming season.
